Intoxicated Woman Arrested While Trying To Enter Wrong Residence

A local woman was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center New Year’s Day after allegedly attempting to enter the wrong house while intoxicated.

Edna Wannell Staggs, 75, was booked on one count of Public Intoxication in connection with the matter.

Deputies with the sheriff’s department were dispatched to a home on Branch Drive in Brookwood Acres, shortly after 8:00 p.m. They report Staggs was attempting to unlock the door with the key to her Springer Road home.

According to reports, deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. When they inquired as to whether Staggs had been drinking, she reportedly told them she had consumed two mixed drinks as well as half of a bottle of Fox Whiskey.

She told deputies she had the house key in her purse. When she opened her purse, deputies report the half-bottle of whiskey fell out.

Staggs is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 7, 2012.
